EnAct Community Action annually sponsors the Group Workcamps, a non-denominational youth group from around the country, by assisting in locating eligible homes, arranging lodging, and providing local funds for materials to perform needed work on low-income families’ homes somewhere in its five (5) county service area. In 2017, EnAct decided to concentrate the Workcamp in the Clendenin and Elkview area to continue to help the flood victims. In the summer of 2017, 450 youth came into the area and worked on 62 homes, in part thanks to a generous donation from the Kanawha County Commission to pay for supplies and materials.
Recognizing that there were still many families in the Clendenin area needing assistance, EnAct Community Action decided to once again bring the Workcamp youth back into the Clendenin and Elkview area. July 16-20, 2018, 370 youth from around the country will be staying at the Elkview Middle School and will be working daily on 58 selected homes in the area. Each day they will venture out to work on their assigned projects and then cap the week off with a public reception Friday evening, July 20 at the Elkview Middle School from 7pm to 9pm. Also, once again, thanks go to the Kanawha County Commission for another generous donation for supplies and materials.
