Damon came to EnAct Community Action in 2013 from a “Temp Service” to be our front desk administrative assistant. In this role he was the first point of contact with the public whether it was via the telephone or in person. After a few months Damon had impressed us to the point that we hired him full-time. As time went by, Damon continued to show an interest in growing and assuming more responsibility. He became the key coordinator of our Christmas program working in conjunction with the United Way and Toys for Tots.

Being the father of three and living with his significant other and children, Damon expressed an interest in wanting to better himself and get his family out of “the projects.” After exploring different educational and employment options, Damon decided he wanted to earn his Chemical Operator’s degree from Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College and pursue a career in the chemical industry.

Through EnAct Community Action’s Workforce Development Program, we were able to assist Damon with his tuition, books, and supplies while he was pursuing this degree. During his final semester Damon received an internship to work with Kureha in their facility located in Belle, West Virginia. Upon graduation in 2014 Kureha offered Damon full-time employment.

As a result of this life changing decision, and the support of EnAct Community Action, Damon is not just gainfully employed, but recently married the love of his life and has made an offer to purchase a home for his family.
